William MacKenzie was active as a publisher from 1866 to 1895 and in this work he utilised the skills of the mapmaker Francis Sidney Weller, the cartographer, to produce a series of maps. They were derived from the Ordnance Survey. The whole was edited by J. H. F. Brabner. Population data derives from the 1891 census and receipts for the work in institutions indicate a publishing date of 1894.
