This work is compiled by John Barrow, a teacher of mathematics, and published by John Coote by whom it is generally known. To illustrate this part work a series of plates were issued, both costume and fine topographical views. Also an attractive series of rococo style engraved maps by George Rollos (1731-96) of the world. It was first published in two volumes in 1759 and 1760 respectively. This ‘Second Edition, revised and Corrected’ bears the date 1762 on the title page of the first volume. Provenance: with manuscript ownership of ‘Wm. Harding’ on recto of frontispiece. Folio (355 x 230 mm. each), two volumes, full contemporary mottled calf, ribbed spine with gilt ruled bands and calf title label, volume 2 rebacked. With engraved frontispiece, typographic title page in red and black, pp. xii, published originally in parts and unpaginated, with 48 maps, 35 views and 59 costume plates, wormhole to lower margin of first few leaves, otherwise in good condition.
