The ‘Complete Course of Geography’ is a series of geographical games. It was written by L’Abbe Gaultier (c.1745-1818) who was a mapmaker from Piedmont in France. He fled the French Revolution for London and finally returned to Paris where he died. It was first published in 1792, with another edition in 1795, each varies in content. The atlas is rare and is not often complete. The maps are the work of Jehosophat Aspin (fl.1805-40) and are engraved by N. R. Hewitt. The last map of America shows the short lived state of Franklinia. Provenance: bookplate of Eric Quayle, Cornwall pasted inside front cover; Clive A Burden Ltd. 1999; private English collection. Not in Baynton-Williams (1995); refer McCorkle (2009) no. 114; refer Shirley (2004) T.Gaul 1a; Tooley (1999-2004) with portrait on p. 144.
