This atlas was first published in 1827 by L. Duprat-Duverger. This ‘Nouvelle Edition’ is dated 1841 and published by Aime Robiquet (fl.1825-79). References to an 1842 edition cite him as a warehouseman of the ‘Cartes de la Marine Royale’. This 1841 issue with different imprint could not be found. It is not in the Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris. The detailed accompanying statistical data is supplied by General Jacques Aupick (1789-1857). The maps were produced by the cartographer Aristide Michel Perrot (1793-1879) and engraved by the brothers Malo.

This example besides being in excellent condition and with a very fine binding, has a distinguished provenance. It was owned by William Arthur Charles Cavendish-Bentinck, 6th Duke of Portland (1857–1943), a prominent British landowner, courtier, and Conservative politician, known for managing the vast Welbeck Abbey estate and library. The library was rated one of the finest in the country. It was curated by Richard Goulding. However, it was dispersed in several sales during the 1950s. Provenance: with bookplate of ‘William Arthur Sixth Duke of Portland K. G.; inscription at the top of the bookplate ‘Happy Mothers Day – 1974 Caroline Byram Charley’; private French collection. Tooley’s Dictionary (1999-2004).
