An example of the 1793 edition of the previous item. John Cary (c.1754-1835) and descendants were possibly the most prolific publishers of cartography around the turn of the eighteenth century. This is the first of three significant English County productions. Cary is noted for the clarity of detail in his maps and was the first to use the Greenwich meridian. Quarto (330 x 260 mm.), contemporary half calf, marbled boards, gilt. Rebacked, gilt tooling and original label pasted on. With engraved title, dedication leaf, contents leaf, map of South Britain and 43 early outline coloured county maps all with original tissues on 44 plates (West Riding being on two plates) and maps of North and South Wales. Some light toning to some of the maps.
