This is the smallest of the three county atlases produced by John Cary. It was described by Cary as being an abridgement of the ‘New and Correct Atlas’ of 1787. It was first published in 1790. Provenance: private English collection. Chubb 281; Fordham (1925) p. 39.

Octavo (170 x 115 mm.), full contemporary folding red morocco with fastener in excellent condition. With engraved title, advertisement pasted to verso, contents leaf torn, general map and 42 maps, map of Yorkshire folding backed on linen and inserted in special pocket in binding, all in early outline colour. Gilt edged. All maps clean. Nineteenth century double hemisphere map of the world pasted inside front cover. With several leaves of notepaper bound at the back.
