A fine example of a lovely little English County atlas engraved by Samuel John Neele. This is the first dated edition of Whittaker’s ‘Travellers Pocket Atlas’ but it is believed that the undated issue is earlier, perhaps as early as 1820. In this edition most of the maps are dated 1821 and bear the publishers imprint of Whittaker. Carroll (1996) no. 77; Chubb (1927) no. 390.

Duodecimo (155 x 100 mm.), contemporary half blue morocco, marbled boards, blind edged, a little worn. Spine with ruling and two ornate designs top and bottom, gilt title, marbled endpapers. With engraved title page, folding circular map of the Environs of London backed with fine linen and 42 (of 43) engraved maps (Yorkshire folding, lacking Durham) all in fine early wash colour, 22 pages of indexes and lists and an advertisement.
