A magnificent reference work published to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the death of Prince Henry the Navigator, one of the most famous Portuguese explorers. What makes it remarkable is that it reproduced every known Portuguese map, printed or manuscript, produced between 1470 and 1620. The majority are uncoloured but many are in colour. Each map is accompanied by descriptive text written in both Portuguese and English. The work includes an alphabetical list of Portuguese cartographers and their known works, a chronological list of Portuguese cartographic works, along with a list of the institutions in which they are known to be preserved.
