Charles Francois Delamarche (1740-1817) was a Parisian geographer, publisher and globe maker. He bought the stock of Didier Robert de Vaugondy from Jean Fortin and reissued the quarto atlas offered here. First issued by Vaugondy in 1762 Pedley identifies the various editions. Delamarche’s first edition was in 1784 or shortly thereafter. This example can be dated to 1804 on the basis of the maps being redated according to the French Republican calendar and the altered imprint on the title page. The maps are numbered to 52 with 1 bis plate and one additional folding map of France not accounted for in the list of contents. Provenance: pencil inscription of Alice Berlii? on front free endpaper. Pedley, Mary Sponburg. (1992). Bel et Utile: The Work of the Robert de Vaugondy Family of Mapmakers. p. 231.
