The exact identity of E. Cortambert is unclear. Tooley’s Dictionary cite a Pierre Francois Eugene Cortambert (1805-81), it is possible he went by the name Eugene. Certainly, he produced a number of atlases at this period. Editions under this title appear to exist through to at least 1885. This is the earliest edition we have identified, and the title is not listed in Tooley’s work. Although dated 1847 on the title the latest date found on any of the contents is 1852. Provenance: acquired from Paul Orssich 1998 for the private collection of Rodney Shirley.
