This fine little series of maps was first published by James Wallis c.1812 as ‘Wallis’ New Pocket Edition of the English Counties or Traveller’s Companion’. A further edition was published in 1814 before they were used in two works by Patrick Martin, the extremely rare ‘Sportsman’s Almanack’ and the ‘New Travellers Guide’. Lewis acquired the plate’s c.1818 and immediately published this particular atlas. Following the 1819 edition William Lewis published two further editions in 1835 and 1836, this being an example of the latter. Chubb 366.
