A fine road book featuring a complete set of English county maps by Charles Cooke. The frontispiece bears a nice little vignette scene of a rider paying a toll at a toll-gate. With extensive details of the roads followed by the county atlas. About Gray little is known but the maps by Cooke were first published in 1806-10. Cooke was a bookseller who succeeded his father in Paternoster Row around 1789. Provenance: private English collection. Carroll (1996) no. 63; Chubb (1927) 392; Fordham (1924) p. 58.
