This fine map was published in Herman Moll’s ‘Atlas Minor’ from 1729. It covers the region from Florida to Texas and shows numerous trading paths. It extends northwards to the Missouri River. Several annotations appear including notes on La Salle’s visit to Texas in 1689, the Cenis Mission in 1716, Natchitoches in 1727, three overland routes through Texas in 1713 and 1716, the limits of King Charles II’s Grant to the Lord Proprietor’s (Carolina) in 1663, notes on the construction of several Spanish Forts on the Gulf Coast just prior to the publication of the map. The Florida peninsula is depicted in a curious manor. This is a an example of the fourth state with ‘Georgia’ present, the newly founded colony in 1733. Cumming, W.P. (SE) 201.
