Louis Antoine Du Caille was a geographer and draughtsman in Paris and in 1760 he produced this fine series of maps. Published by Christophe Ballard the atlas was entitled ‘Etrennes Géographiques’ a second edition of which appeared in 1768. This is an EXCELLENT example of a desirable miniature atlas. It is engraved throughout by Durand and Le Roy and contains 2 hemisphere maps of the world, 1 each of the continents including a separate North and South America, 1 of the British Isles, Denmark, Sweden and Norway, 5 maps of France, Flanders, 7 maps of Germany, Prussia, Spain and Portugal, and Italy. A second edition appeared in 1768. Provenance: private English collection. Phillips (1909-) 3505.

Duodecimo (120 x 80 mm.), in superb full early red morocco with extensive gilt decoration to boards, ribbed spine with gilt decoration, each compartment with ornate gilt decoration, gilt title, with original green silk tie, light wear. With ornate engraved frontispiece, engraved title page, engraved Advertisement, two-page Catalogue des Cartes and 26 maps all in early outline colour. Complete with endpapers the first and last of which are with ornate gilt. SUPERB EXAMPLE of the atlas.
