This French map of the Holy Land by Guillaume Postel according to the pencil note was issued in Lyon in 1573. It does not match any of the several Postel examples listed in Laor’s study of Holy Land maps. Postel (1510-81) was a French astronomer and mapmaker. His map of the Holy Land appears to have been first published in 1553. There were a number of derivatives including this one published it is believed in Lyon. The region is depicted pictorially in relief with the settlements clearly displayed. Latitude and longitude lines surround the map. An index below give the co-ordinates of several locations. Coordinates approximate and based on Greenwich meridian. Tooley Dictionary.
