George F. Cram (1842-1928) was a teacher, soldier and founder of a firm of publishers and engravers in Chicago. The first edition of the ‘Unrivaled Family Atlas’ appears to be in 1882. Although copyrighted 1883 on the title page the upper board bears the date 1884. Other than the maps the charts include Flags of the World, five thematic ones, types of the Races of Men, several pages of portraits. Provenance: acquired at Old World Auctions in 2009 for the private collection of Rodney Shirley. Tooley’s Dictionary.
