This is the smallest of the three county atlases produced by John Cary and was first published in 1790. It was described by Cary as being an abridgement of the ‘New and Correct Atlas’ of 1787. Provenance: private English collection. Chubb (1927) 279; Fordham (1925) pp. 35-8 & 62-70; Smith ‘The Map Collector’ 43 pp. 40-47.

Sextodecimo (190 x 135 mm.), modern quarter speckled calf, blind bands to the spine, with gilt title label. Engraved title, advertisement and contents leaf, general map and 42 county maps, that of Yorkshire folding, all in early outline colour. Some very light spotting and minor print offset throughout. Bound with ‘Cary’s New Itinerary’, 1815, general map in full early wash colour with binding tear repaired and extreme upper right corner not printed as issued representing the North Sea, and 6 regional maps including one of the Isle of Wight.
