This is the smallest of the three county atlases produced by John Cary and was first published in 1790. It was described by Cary as being an abridgement of the ‘New and Correct Atlas’ of 1787. Provenance: private English collection. Chubb 280; Fordham (1925) pp. 35-8 & 62-70; Smith ‘The Map Collector’ 43 pp. 40-47.

Sextodecimo (190 x 125 mm.), half old green morocco binding, with blind tooling. Gilt ruled panels to spine with gilt title label. Engraved title, advertisement and contents leaf, general map and 42 county maps, that of Yorkshire folding and restored, all in early outline colour. Light spotting throughout with worm trail just affecting the head of the map in most cases. Bound with ‘Cary’s New Itinerary’, 1817, general map with tears to the folds, and 6 regional maps including one of the Isle of Wight.
