This attractive little atlas by Pierre Mortier in Amsterdam employed the name of Nicolas Sanson on the title page to promote sales. There is no French equivalent publication so it appears Mortier is just referring to the cartography, many of Mortier’s publications were produced in such a manner. This work is one of six similar pocket sized atlases for travellers published by Mortier. They include works on Spain, Italy, Germany, the Low Countries and the rest of the world. Although all are undated they are referred to in an advertisement of 1708 and again in the inventory of Pierre Mortier’s widow in 1719. They were all reissued by Covens and Mortier. A rare item. Koeman III Mor 6; Pastoureau Sanson IVb T. 2; Shirley BL T.Mort 4a.
