Sidney Hall (fl.1818-1860) began his career as an engraver for the Arrowsmith family. His first county maps were those published by Samuel Leigh in 1820. The first edition of the ‘Topographical Dictionary’ was in 1832. It included a quarto series of maps by Hall which had a long life. Later they were published in Hall’s ‘New British Atlas’ which proved popular to an increasingly mobile public. Provenance: private English collection. Beresiner pp. 110-113; Carroll 94; Chubb 446.

Three octavo volumes (220 x 150 mm.), modern cloth binding, lightly worn. Gilt titles to spine. Contents clean throughout, overall fine condition. Engraved title, preface 14 pp., Population Return for 1831, 54 double page maps by Sidney Hall, some with light print offset. Minor spotting, but otherwise a decent example.
