A very rare plan of Boston and Bunkers Hill detailing the first major conflict of the Revolutionary War. The first shots of the War were of course fired at Concord outside Boston and the Americans followed this up with a gathering of troops on the Charleston Peninsula to take control of Boston itself. On the night of 16 June 1775 about 1500 Americans took up their positions. Their position was soon spotted and the British commander, General Gage, sent a force under Major General Howe to retake the peninsula. Underestimating the American forces the British suffered heavy losses and only one the day when the Americans ran out of ammunition. This map bears an engraved plan of the battle with a printed account of it below. Nebenzahl Battle Plans no. 28; Nebenzahl “Atlas of the Revolution” no. 3.
