The firm of Alan Bell and Co. were publishers of London from 1835 to around 1840. The map of the United States includes Tennessee named ‘Cumberland’. There is also a fine map of New South Wales dated 1839. Provenance: manuscript ownership signature of ‘J. Morley’ on the title page; Foyles 5 July 1961; private collection of Rodney Shirley. Quarto (375 x 260 mm.), original quarter calf, cloth boards, rebacked preserving original spine, with original paper title label pasted to upper board, gilt panelled raised bands and gilt title to spine. With 40 double page maps, all in early wash colour. Some very light foxing, otherwise in good condition.
