This large map of Wales appeared in Sir Richard Colt Hoare’s translation of the work of Giraldus Cambrensis and is entitled ‘The Itinerary of Archbishop Baldwin through Wales’. Published in 1806, this two-volume work is highly valued. Archbishop Baldwin (c.1125-90) was Archbishop of Canterbury between 1185 and 1190. Baldwin spent time in Wales with Gerald of Wales preaching and raising funds for the Third Crusade. Baldwin took part in that Crusade and died in the Holy Land.
