FIRST EDITION. This appealing atlas which was designed to be a companion to Dury’s ‘Universal Pocket Atlas’, with a charming series of town plans based on those of John Rocque as stated in the title. Except for that of the Isle of Wight the maps are coastal ones surrounding the whole of the British Isles. The Isle of Wight is numbered ‘0’, is out of sequence and may have been a last minute inclusion. These are followed by the superb series of town plans. The date of publication is derived from that given to London on the contents leaf ‘London as it is this present year 1764’. Provenance: Burden Collection duplicate; Doreen Green Collection 2016; private English collection. Darlington & Howgego (1964) no. 129; ESTC N69223; Shirley (2004) T.Dury 2a; Worms & Baynton-Williams (2011).
