A rare map of South America first published in Lyon in 1690. It appeared in the fourth volume of the ‘Nouvelle Méthode pour apprendre facilement la Géographie’ by A. Phérotée de la Croix. The work contained eighteen maps engraved by R. M. Ogier. This second state is determined by the reference to deriving from a fifth volume, in this case a second edition which was published in 1705. La Croix was a teacher of geography, history, and mathematics in Lyon, France. The two fictitious lakes common for the period are illustrated: Lake Parime and one feeding the La Plata River. The route of Le Maire in the Pacific is shown, but not that of his Atlantic portion. Refer Burden (1996-2007) no. 671; Shirley (2004) T.Lacr 1a.18.
