This large scale plan of Scarborough was by William Vincent who is not recorded for anything else in Tooley’s Dictionary of Mapmakers. A rare item, it was engraved by Nathaniel Hill (fl.1742-68) in a wonderful decorative style. It was published just following the Jacobite Rebellion at a time when interest in England’s northern defences were heightened. It includes two tables of the Captains Names and their guns distributed around the town. A very rare item. Worms & Baynton-Williams (2011).
