A fine road book featuring a complete set of English county maps by Charles Cooke. The frontispiece bears a nice little vignette scene of a rider paying a toll at a toll-gate. With extensive details of the roads followed by the county atlas. About Gray little is known but the maps by Cooke were first published in 1806-10. Cooke was a bookseller who succeeded his father in Paternoster Row around 1789. Provenance: bookplate of T. F. Dowden inside front cover; private English collection. Reference to the Maps (verso of last leaf), general map of England and Wales and 48 county maps, including 4 of Yorkshire, North and South Wales, South of Scotland and the Isle of Thanet. Folding map of the Lake District with some margin support, the large folding map of Derbyshire with some tape discolouration.
