In 1692 Johann Ulrich Müller (1633-1715) published this small geographical work entitled ‘Geographia Totius Orbis Compendiaria’. In the same year a German edition was also published entitled ‘Kurtbuendige Abbild-und Vorstellung der Gantzen Welt’. To illustrate both works Müller provided a new series of 103 maps. Mostly unsigned, it would seem that the engraver was one of the Bodenehr family, G. C. Bodenehr signs the engraved frontispiece. Tooley’s ‘Dictionary of Mapmakers’ declares the relationships between the various Bodenehrs of the period have not been determined and identifies three G. Bodenehrs. Gabriel, elder and younger, and Georg Conrad (1663-1710), who may well be our engraver. Other authorities assign them to one of the Gabriel’s.

This is a rare miniature atlas in which each map is paired with explanatory Latin text of various type sizes to enable the description to fit on the same page. The verso of each map is blank. Provenance: private English collection since the mid-1970s. Provenance: private English collection since the 1970s. King (1996) pp. 136-7; Phillips (1909-) 512; refer Shirley (2004) T.Mull 1a; Tooley’s (1999-2004).
