The ‘Atlas Anglicanus’ was first issued in parts surviving in just one known example and then as the first edition of the ‘Atlas Anglicanus’ in 1767 re-published in 1777. Emanuel Bowen (fl.1714 d.1767) was a very active engraver whose style is often noted by the extensive use of legends. Emanuel died during the issue of the parts and the work was continued by his son Thomas. This map of Cornwall is an example of the second state with the addition of the imprint of Kitchin as issued in the first edition of the atlas. Hodson 254; Quixley (1966) no. 23.
