A remarkably rare road book of Europe known in just ONE OTHER COMPLETE EXAMPLE. The work describes the various routes and distances between towns in Germany, Holland, France, Italy and Spain. In England only those roads from London are described, a total of eleven. These are the standard eleven roads originally featured in John Judson’s ‘Cronicle of Yeres’, published in [1542]. Although there is no obvious attribution and the publisher appears to be Lambert Andreas Shirley speculates that the work may have been edited by Conrad Loew. This was the pseudonym for Matthias Quad. Of the nineteen maps present in the work the following nine were first published here: Belgium, Denmark, Prussia, Livonia, Lithuania, Bohemia, Hungaria, Switzerland and Piedmont. The further maps are of Germany, France, Italy, Spain, British Isles, Sweden, Moscovia, Poland, Rhetia and Savoy. The British Library example lacks the map of Spain and the only other complete example recorded is at the Herzog August Bibliothek, Wolfenbuttel.
