This is the smallest of the three county atlases produced by John Cary and was first published in 1790. It was described by Cary as being an abridgement of the ‘New and Correct Atlas’ of 1787. Provenance: ex libris T. P. Davies pasted inside front cover; private English collection. Chubb 279; Fordham (1925) pp. 35-8 & 62-70; Smith ‘The Map Collector’ 43 pp. 40-47.

Sextodecimo (185 x 125 mm.), full early diced calf boards, rebacked. Spine with blind rules and title. Signs of it being originally a saddlebag copy. Engraved title, advertisement and contents leaf, general map and 42 county maps, that of Yorkshire dissected, folding, backed with linen and trimmed to border, all in early outline colour. Light spotting throughout. Bound with ‘Cary’s New Itinerary’, 1815, general map, and 6 regional maps including one of the Isle of Wight.
