A good example of an extremely rare atlas. Only one example is known to have appeared at auction in the last 30 years. The first two volumes are devoted to Europe with the following three on Asia, Africa and America each. Initially the atlas was published in monthly parts. There was originally planned a sixth volume to be devoted to the British Isles. This did not appear in print until 1724 under the title of ‘A New Description of England and Wales’. Provenance: Lord Wardington Library at Sotheby’s 10 October 2006 lot 300. Phillips (1909-) 3477; Shirley (2004) Moll 3a.
