Ptolemy’s map as issued by Laurent Fries in the 1541 edition. By now Lorenz Fries whose maps were first issued in the 1522 edition had died. The blocks found their way into the possession of Melchoir and Gaspar Treschel. This edition was published in Lyon but printed in Vienne. It depicts the central North African coast as mapped by Ptolemy. The islands of Sardinia, Sicily and Malta are also present. Karrow, R.W.
