The original of this map was engraved by Wenceslaus Hollar. It is a birds-eye view of the town with ships in the harbour. The Hollar engraving was a frontispiece to “A True Narrative of the most Observable Passages in and at the late Siege of Plymouth”, 1644. Pennington cites two copies produced, one bears the word “Discription” in the title, the other “Pars Corn-Waliae”, neither matches this example. It is possible that this may be a later eighteenth century state of the original Hollar plate.
