This magnificent four-sheet map of Scotland was published by Laurie and Whittle and drawn by Lieutenant Campbell. A large inset top right features the ‘Islands of Shetland or Zetland’ which are laid down on the same scale. According to Moir the map was originally published by the unknown Marcus Armstrong in 1782. In this state it appeared in Kitchin’s ‘General Atlas’. It was re-worked in 1790 with much of the western isles being revised. Some new roads were added and some re-drawn based on Ainslie’s map of 1789. This is the third state with the imprint of Laurie and Whittle. Shirley BL Atlases T.Lau 1a nos. 9 & 10. Moir Royal Scottish Geog. Soc. p. 203.
