Jan Jansson’s English county maps were first published in the ‘Atlas Novus’ in 1646. What is little known is that some of the counties only appeared in earlier issues. One is this map of Suffolk, usually found with German text on the back this example is without any. All so-called pre-issue Jansson county maps are rare and desirable. Map Collectors Circle no. 34 pp. 16-17; Skelton p. 223.
