Captain Pennell-Elmhirst (1845-1916) was a notable sportsman who wrote a number of books on hunting. Many of these accounts were selected and republished from “The Field”, for whom he wrote under the pen-name “Brooksby.

Octavo, red cloth with elaborate black and gilt horse jumping design imprinted on front cover and another on the spine. pp. viii, 211, (4 publisher’s catalogue). Four full page coloured plates with tissue guards, one loose; black &white illustrations throughout including a vignette on title page. Illustrations, coloured and plain, by John Sturgess. Cloth a little worn away at the top of the spine.
