The ‘Atlas Maritimus & Commercialis’ is usually attributed to Edmond Halley who contributed the prefatory note detailing the use of the charts. These were based on a new globular form of projection improving on that of Mercator. Daniel Defoe is also believed to have been a contributor. The author of the sailing directions and associated text was Nathaniel Cutler who is often associated with the work. The engraving was undertaken by Samuel Parker whose name appears lower right.
