Charles Smith was a noted engraver and publisher of maps. He became Map Seller Extraordinary to H.R.H. the Prince of Wales. The firm published a world atlas, globes, and two English county atlases. This quarto sized map came from “Smith’s New English Atlas” first published in 1822, but the engraver James Gardner was utilised. The roads on his maps particularly stand out. The quarto atlas is much rarer than the folio. Hodson 84.2.
