This four-part map depicts town plans of Yorke, Shrewsbury and Lancaster and a view of Richmond Palace. It is flanked by eight costumed figures of the different races along the left and peoples on the right. It was first published in the very rare sixth volume of George Braun and Frans Hogenberg’s ‘Civitates Orbis Terrarum …’ This example was published by Jan Jansson in 1657. He had acquired all of the Braun and Hogenberg plates around 1653 and issued them in the multi volume ‘Theatrum Urbium’. With Latin text to the verso.
