This chart details the western portion of the Sea of Marmara linking the waters of the Black Sea to the Mediterranean. The highly strategic town of Gallipoli holds position over the entrance. Now known as Gelibolu it was the site of one of the worst military disasters for the Allied powers during the First World War, just 24 years after this map was published.
