The first edition of Pagès ‘Voyage Autour du Monde’. Pagès, a French Naval Officer, travelled up the Red River to Nachitoches and traversed Texas to the Rio Grande at Lareda. He then travelled south to Mexico City and Acapulco from where he caught the Spanish Manila bound galleon. Pagès work is ‘of great importance for its information on the Spanish colonial empire in North America.’ (Hill). The plates are engraved by Robert Benard a key one being ‘Carte d’une Partie de l’Amerique Septentrionale, qui Contient Partie de la Nle. Espagne, et de la Lousiane’. An early map to name Texas, many Indian tribes and villages are located along his route which is indicated. Graff 3161; Hill p.526; Howes P13; Sabin 58168.
