First edition, with light waterstain towards the end, otherwise fine. Baudry des Lozières narrative is a largely diffident work that includes significant Dakota and Chippewa vocabularies. A classic of early Louisiana accounts it also refers to the region of Texas. It has been suggested that it was written to demonstrate Louisiana’s importance when it was thought that it would be returned to the French. Howes B243; Sabin 3979; Seibert sale 28 October 1999 lot 791; Streeter 3:1571; Wagner-Camp 1a.
