This map is ultimately derived from Augustine Herrman’s landmark map of 1673. It first appeared in Herman Moll’s ‘Atlas Minor’ in 1729. This is an example of the fourth state of seven. It is a beautifully engraved map centred on the Chesapeake Bay. The English and Indian plantations are identified by square and triangular symbols respectively. Morrison, R. fig.25; Papenfuse & Coale 19-20, 22.
