Luigi Rossini (1790-1857) was a native of Ravenna but soon moved to Bologna where he became an assistant to Antonio Basoli at 18 years old. At 24 he moved to Rome he put to use his study of architecture. Being a great admirer of Piranesi he turned to the art of etching and emulated him as much as possible. ‘Le Antichita Romane’ was first published in 1823. Berlin Kat. 1916.
