An attractive map of the extent of the Ottoman Empire with a prominent Arabian peninsula. It extends from Italy to the Caspian Seas in the North and the Red Sea and Saudi Arabian peninsula in the South. Cyprus appears in the centre of the map. It is from Jodocus Hondius’ miniature version of Gerard Mercator’s great atlas entitled the ‘Atlas Minor’ first published in 1607. This example is from the edition of 1610 with Latin text to the verso. Van der Krogt, P. (Atlantes) 8100:351.
