Heinrich Scherer was professor of mathematics at Munich and a devout Jesuit. His seven-part “Atlas Novus” was finely engraved by several named artists including Johann Degler and Josef a Montalegre from Nuremberg and Leonhard Henckenauer. This particular map of France bears unrolled scroll insets of the West Indies and Canada to illustrate her possessions in these regions. Shirley “Atlases in BL” T.Sher 1a.
