One of only FOUR KNOWN EXAMPLES. During the period 1711-12 Henry Overton employed Sutton Nicholls to engrave 5 English county maps for him. This map bears the additional imprint of John Hoole, who was in partnership with Overton from c.1724-34. During this time they planned a county atlas of which only nine county maps were produced. It is presumed that at about the same time he had engraved this diagrammatic map of the roads of England and Wales after John Ogilby’s ‘Britannia’. It uses a diagrammatic form meaning that there is no geographical accuracy. It is derived from the same by John Overton issued some time earlier. The roads are the main feature of the map and are laid down in virtually straight double ruled lines. The computed distance in miles between towns are plotted. Only four examples are known.
