An attractive detailed map of Sicily, highlighting Mount Etna. Mylne was Scottish and is more famously known as the architect of Blackfriar’s Bridge, London, built in the 1760s. The bridge has strong Italian connections with the great Piranesi engraving a view of it under construction. He had met Mylne during the latter’s four years in Italy. The map was originally published during the same visit in 1757. In modern times the bridge is more notoriously known for the ‘suicide’ of Roberto Calvi who was found hanging from it in 1982. Bremner (1993); Shirley (2004) Atlases T.Lau 1a no. 23.
