Randall Taylor was a bookseller and publisher near Stationers Hall in London. He placed an advert in the ‘London Gazette’ for 21 August 1690 offering ‘A Map of the City of Limerick upon the Shannon in Ireland, with the Names of Churches, Gates, Bridges, Forts, Streets, & c. exactly described by a Person of Quality of that City’. The map was published during the Jacobite War in Ireland which had been triggered by the Glorious Revolution in England in 1688 when the Catholic King James II was replaced by a Protestant William of Orange. The town of Limerick was twice besieged during the conflict. Tyacke (1978) no. 187.
